About UnchainedStack Foundation

In recent years, VMware’s mandatory subscription shift, Oracle Java’s licensing changes, and strategic pivots by major vendors have increasingly threatened the “freedom of choice” and “future flexibility” in IT infrastructure configuration, often without enterprises’ full awareness.
Many companies now face the reality that traditional procurement and design methods can no longer build sustainable system foundations. There is a growing need for a configuration philosophy independent of specific vendors—the Unchained Stack perspective.
The UnchainedStack Foundation was established to address these challenges as a neutral, non-profit international forum. It provides a platform for enterprises and practitioners, regardless of OSS or commercial software, to share common challenges and insights, focusing on configuration reproducibility and technological sustainability, and to collaboratively build the next set of options.

Our goal is to build a foundation for sustainable IT selection by sharing configuration philosophies and operational insights across disciplines in a practical and evidence-based manner.

• We evaluate technology selection holistically, including both OSS and commercial products.
• We openly share configuration strategies to avoid vendor lock-in.
• We provide an open forum where engineers, architects, and procurement officers can discuss freely, regardless of affiliation or position.
• We formalize configuration examples and insights, including successes and failures, into reusable knowledge assets.
